Master Quality Native Tribal Basket (13-14 inches, 2" Deep)
This one-of-a-kind, handwoven basket, measuring 13 to 14 inches with a 2” depth,
exemplifies master craftsmanship in every stitch. Crafted using sustainably
harvested wild reeds and date palm leaves, each basket features intricate designs
inspired by centuries-old traditions from both Pakistan and the American Southwest,
introduced by American missionaries. These artisanal baskets can take weeks to
weave, ensuring that each one tells a unique story.
The date palm leaves are naturally dyed using organic pigments in clay-lined pits,
creating rich, vibrant hues. The skilled weavers wrap the dyed leaves in a
figure-eight pattern around wild river reeds, carefully changing colors to form the
intricate designs. Colors will soften over time, adding character as they age or when
exposed to sunlight.
Minor variations in color and material are a testament to the handmade nature of
these pieces. Fairly traded and ethically sourced, each basket is not only beautiful
but also supports traditional craftsmanship.
These versatile baskets can be laid flat to hold fruit, keys, or other items, or easily
hung on a wall with a single finishing nail for an artistic display.
